Chapter Fourteen

When Bailey awoke on Saturday spooning Patsy rather than Skye, regret at having walked away from Skye and all she’d offered stabbed sharp in her stomach. She rolled out of bed and prepared to go for a run, hoping that would help clear her head so she could figure out what she wanted to do. Unfortunately, she spent forty minutes vacillating between how much she wanted Skye and how bad an idea it was, so her mind was more jumbled when she got back than when she’d left.

She tried to work in the garden, but even while pulling weeds, her mind traveled to the feel of Skye’s lips, her silk-covered nipple, and then she imagined Skye taking care of herself in the shower after she’d left.

In her mind’s eye, Skye stood in a large, walk-in shower with a glass door. She was leaning against the back wall, watching herself in the mirror through the glass as she ran one hand over her breast and squeezed her nipple while using a handheld showerhead creatively with the other. Bailey had given herself one hell of an orgasm the night before with that image and might need to do it again later today. Perhaps that would clear her mind. She stifled a groan as she imagined Skye pinching her nipple again and bringing herself to another orgasm.

Jesus.

“Good morning, Bailey!”

Bailey jolted at the sound. “Good morning, Mrs. Martin. How are you?” She knew she wasn’t on her A game if Mrs. Martin could sneak up on her.

“Oh, I’m fine, dear. I was checking in. You looked like you were attacking those weeds with actual malice. Is something wrong?”

She was the sweetest woman around. “Thank you, but I’m fine, I promise. Did you see we’re starting to get a few tomatoes here?” She deftly changed the subject as she gently lifted a portion of the vine so Mrs. Martin could see. “They’re small, but it’s a great start. We’re going to be in produce soon.”

“I can’t wait, dear. Well, you enjoy your Saturday. I’m off to bingo happy hour.”

“Happy hour? It’s not even noon.”

“When it’s bingo for senior citizens, it should always be happy hour. When you go to bed at seven, you’ve got to start early.” She laughed, shimmying her shoulders. “Plus, who knows how much time we have left? Why waste it being boring at home. You’ve gotta live your life the way you want to, Bailey. Having fun during the day isn’t just for old people, either.” She winked and walked into her garage.

Feeling like a whirlwind had blown through her yard, Bailey tried to get back to weeding, but Mrs. Martin’s words stuck with her. You’ve gotta live your life. That was what she was doing. Wasn’t it? She had a thriving business. She had Patsy. She had her family. She really didn’t feel like she was missing anything. At least, she hadn’t until she’d met Skye. Now she didn’t know which way was up.

But she’d tried the forever commitment thing before, and it had blown up.
